aggregate where the process is below the water table. We have
a very sand-rich deposit here, and on average our source comes
out 25 percent rock and 75 percent sand, with most of the rock
running 6 in. minus.”
The final products produced at Pine Ridge include various
sand grades, as well as concrete and some asphalt mixes. “
Typically, we’re making concrete sand, asphalt sand, fill sand, VMA
and concrete stone in three different gradations,” Kaskiw said.
“Any number of specific recipes could be called for on any given
day. When the facility was conceived, the desire for a highly efficient, yet highly flexible, operation was at the forefront.”
Accepting the task
It was clear from the start that vendor selection would be critical
to the success of the project. Kaskiw said they needed to identify
a vendor that could serve as a partner in the design process,
understand the obstacles and challenges they presented and
offer clearly defined, innovative ideas as solutions. Three vendors were engaged early in 2006 to participate in various initial
stages of the project, and ultimately KPI-JCI was chosen. “They
were the only ones who came to the table with an extremely
aggressive construction schedule,” he said.
KPI-JCI delivered a complete turnkey plant, capable of
producing more than 1,100 tph of mixed finished product.
